 |  'Earth' Shoes Are Back! -- Hollywood Embraces New Vegan Styles

While Hollywood fashion pages are often covered with stilettos and spiky heels, a new trend is emerging. As flat shoes have become more popular, some of the most fashionable celebrities are seeking out comfortable shoes (not to wear on the red carpet, of course). One of the brands that are on many celebrity feet is Earth. Anyone who was around in the 70s probably remembers the original Earth Shoes that seemed to be everywhere. They're back and celebrities are snapping them up in all the new colors and styles, including the new Earth Vegan styles.
Gwyneth Paltrow has Earth Vegan Moon Mist in white. Cheryl Hines ("Curb Your Enthusiasm") has Earth Vegan Woodland sandals in pink and she got a pair of Earth Boots for her mother-in-law. Pierce Brosnan has Earth Vegan Forest sandals in sandstone. His wife, Keely Shaye Smith has Earth Vegan Magnetism sandals and two pairs of Earth Vegan Gidget boots so she can wear them to garden at each of her homes in Los Angeles and Hawaii. Other celebrities who wear Earth Shoes include Jennie Garth, Tatum O'Neal, Alexandra Paul, Ed Begley Jr. and Mindy Cohn, who received them from her "Facts of Life" co-star Cloris Leachman.
After a nearly twenty year absence from the world market, Earth is being re-discovered by followers from the 1970's, and a younger generation who are discovering Earth comfort and style for the first time. The now-fashionable shoe has been embraced by famous shoe designer, Kenneth Cole, and has been featured in numerous publications. According to the Vegetarian Resource Group, approximately 4 to 10 percent of the U.S. population call themselves vegetarians and one percent consider themselves vegans. The Vegan Society states that applications to use its international trademark on vegan products has tripled in the past few years, despite the growing boom in high-protein, meat rich diets.
